Green Tea Moisturizer
If you are like me, when you think of green tea, you hardly think about a moisturizer. When someone mentions green tea I assume they are talking about a hot drink. I have heard that certain types of teas are better for you (black tea, green tea) but I have never heard of them used as moisturizers. A few days ago a friend of mine mentioned that they had recently purchased a green tea moisturizer and were already noticing a difference in the appearance of their skin. This peaked my interest and I did a little investigating, here is what I found.
Benefits Of Green Tea
As I said before, it is a well known fact that green tea leaves are healthy for you, but what health benefits do they provide? Now I must say that I am not sure that the benefits from drinking green tea will correspond to the benefits of applying green tea moisturizer but I like to cover all of my bases, so we’re going to start at the begining.
For well over 4,000 years, the Chinese have been using green tea to treat various ailments. This herbal supplement was used as somewhat of a cure-all, aiding with everything from headaches to depression. Thinking outside of the box is great but is there any scientific proof that this supplement actually has that big of an effect on your overall health? In recent years there have been many studies on green tea and the way it effects our bodies. The most interesting, in my opinion, was done by Purdue University. They concluded that certain elements of the warm drink were found to reduce or even eliminate the production of certain cancerous cells. Green tea was also found to help lower the overall “bad” cholesterol levels (LDL). The most important aspect of the green tea leaf is the fact that it is very rich with an antioxidant called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). Antioxidants help to rid the body of toxins and to keep us safe from many diseases. One of the most intersting thing about green tea is that the only negative side effect that it can cause is insomnia, this is due to the drinks caffeine content.
What Exactly Is Green Tea Moisturizer
I know what you are thinking, “That’s all well and good, but how can I benefit from green tea moisturizer?”. Just as it can
help you in its liquid form, green tea has been found to be tremendously helpfull as a moisturizer. Many of you may have heard of the acne solution Proactive. This product is well known as being the best way to easily clear up your acne. One of the main ingredients in this product, believe it or not, is green tea extract. The reason why green tea was added may not be for the reason that you think. Green tea will not clear up your acne, it will however moisturize and keep your skin from developing wrinkles. Most acne treatments severely dry and damage your skin. By adding a green tea moisturizer, Proactive allows their product to clear your skin without damaging it.
In order to keep your skin looking youthful and wrinkle free, it must stay moisturized. Just as antioxidants keep your body safe from toxins, they can keep your skin safe when they are created in a cream or lotion form. The antioxidants in green tea moisturizers will help to protect your skin from the damage done by the sun, toxic foods and other carcinogen that are found in the air, due to pollution. The older we get, the more the damage that has been done to our skin becomes noticeable. Even if you haven’t noticed a huge change yet, over time this “wear and tear” will become much more visible. It is important to not just moisturize your skin with cheap lotions but to also nourish it with vitamins and minerals that will help to protect the skin as well as repair damage that has already been done.
What Can You Expect From Green Tea Moisturizer
The results of long term use may vary from person to person. It will also depend on the current condition of your skin. Someone with severely damaged skin can not expect the same results as a person with fairly healthy skin. The benefits that can be expected from prolonged use of green tea moisturizers are as follows:
- Moisturizes and hydrates skin
- Can help to reduce the risk of certain skin cancers
- Protects the skin from toxins due to sun exposure and air pollution
- Rejuvenates skin and reduces wrinkles
- Green tea moisturizers are much less thick and greasy than many other creams or lotions
- A healthier alternative to many other skin moisturizers
