The basic premise behind using a dehumidifier in an overly damp house holds true within the closets of the house. If there is too much moisture present inside a closet or wardrobe the result is going to be a wardrobe full of musty, smelly clothes. A closet dehumidifier can be used to control the moisture inside this enclosed area which can not only protect your clothes but it will also protect the closet itself from warping or deteriorating structurally.

There are a couple of different types of closet dehumidifiers to choose from but for the most part they don’t require an electrical outlet to operate. They either rely on gels or moisture absorbent materials such as silica granules to draw the moisture out of the air or other types operate by means of rechargeable batteries.

The absorbent materials can be reused after they have reached saturation point by being taken outside and placed in the sun. The power operated dehumidifiers can discharge the moisture by plugging them in. When the moisture has been removed completely the dehumidifier can simply be placed back in position to start the process over again.

It doesn’t really matter where in your closet these dehumidifiers are positioned although the most obvious place for them is on the floor of the closet. Some models may be mounted on a wall in the closet so that they don’t take up any valuable shelf or storage space.

Closet dehumidifiers are generally not very expensive at all and the fact that they can be used and reused time and again means that you will get your money’s worth from them. When you consider that the alternative is a closet filled with ruined clothes and the generally unhealthy atmosphere of the presence of mold and mildew in your bedroom, it turns it into a very good investment.

You may find that the moisture problem may extend beyond the closet with an underlying moisture problem existing elsewhere in the house. For this you may require a whole house dehumidifier or, if you only notice the problem in a single room, a small portable dehumidifier.
