What Are Acne Scars
Before we delve into a few tips on how to lessen the appearance of acne scarring, we should first discuss exactly how these scars come about. This may help you
to avoid more scarring and allow you to keep your complexion as clear as possible. When a person suffers from acne, they do not simply develop a pimple or two. A certain percentage of their skin, usually on the face, becomes almost infested with a large and dense amount of acne. As the body begins to evacuate the foreign bacteria, the skin begins to swell and redden. This usually happens on a large scale. When the bacteria is pushed through the pores and out side of the last layer of skin it creates an acne lesion. These lesions happen to any one that develops pimples and will heal back to normal within a few weeks. Those who are stricken with acne will develop large numbers of these acne lesions in close proximity to each other. When lesions are not allowed to properly heal, in a reasonable amount of time, they can cause permanent acne scars.

How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars
Now that you know exactly how this terrible form of scarring occurs and how you can prevent future scarring, you can learn how to lessen the appearance of the scars that you are currently afflicted with. There are a few simple ways that you can remove acne scars and they are as follows:
Chemical Peels – Chemical peels can be used to lessen the appearance of acne scarring. This works well with those who have minor scarring, or scarring that is not too deep. Usually, a chemical peel that is made from Hydroxy Acid (either Alpha or Beta) can be applied to the effected areas. This peel should be kept of the skin for several minutes and then removed. The skin should then be thoroughly cleaned as this chemical can do further damaged if it is left in contact with the skins surface for long periods of time. The purpose of this technique is to ex-foliate the skin and remove its top layers. It will also soften the skin and allow scarred areas the ability to rise to surface levels.
Steroid Injections – Steroid injections work by killing the scarred tissue and allowing the body to re-heal the affected area. This can be very effective in
moderate cases of “Boxed” acne scars.
Skin Needling – Skin needling is done with a specialized ink-less tattoo gun that is set to a specific depth. This treatment works by damaging the scarred areas of your skin and allowing the body to heal them once again.
Laser Treatment – This technique is fairly new and involves the use of lasers to damage the scarred tissue so that the body can replace it with fresh new skin. This is very similar to skin needling only much more precise and a bit more expensive.
Augmentation Therapy – Augmentation therapy is the use of fillers to raise the skin that was sunken due to acne. A needle is used to inject the filler (most often collagen or silicon) underneath the scarred tissue. Once this tissue is raised it will blend perfectly with the rest of your skin.
Subcision – This technique involves cutting out the scar tissue. Once the scar tissue is removed the affected area will fill with blood and heal once again, this time it will be level with the rest of the skin.
Mederma – Mederma is an over the counter scar remedy cream that is made for all types of scars. If your acne scarring is very minor you may want to try this product before you spend the money on a more expensive and invasive procedure. This product can be found in most pharmacies and supermarkets.
It is important that you know that your scarring can be treated and your skin can be repaired. It can be difficult to know which treatment will work best for you. This is why it’s important the you speak with a dermatologist before making a decision. Your doctor will be able to examine your skin and let you know which one of these treatments will be right for you. They may also be able to provide you with information about further treating your acne problems.
